The Deutsche Reichsbahn's commission for "evacuating" first the Jews from Germany, and later those from the occupied territories, was "small fry", compared to the transport jobs the railways had to cope with during the war nearly all over Europe.
Nevertheless, the German railways - and later on those of other compliant European countries - organised the deportation of European Jews to the ghettos and to the extermination camps in the east, with the same efficiency as freight and military transports.
Ten larger-than-life figures of railway workers are used to display and comment on documents concerning the Reichsbahn's plans and measures. The figures are intended to underline that each command is always linked to people, those who issue it, and those who implement it.
